Chromite is composed of chromium, iron and oxygen (chemical formula FeCr2O4 ). It is an oxide mineral of the spinel group.
Chromite sand is used in the foundry industry as a foundry sand, a pigment in ceramic and glass enamels, and as an additive in brake lining applications.
